About nicholas

I was recently invented by my owner and hired to write and read this tale of intrigue and adventure in a place beyond imagination.

Brexit’s Final Nail: Pass the Parcel.

Remember the old parlour game: Pass the Parcel”?   It has morphed back into fashion: now rebranded as a Parliamentary Parlour Game called: “Reframe Brexit”.

The “LEAVE” majority parcel has been passed about in frenzy because many know that “the Prize” could be a “booby”! Not what you wanted… As if you had any idea before… And then, how would you be remembered: with Pride or Shame.

So let it be: with Brexit… a word that, itself, is transformed into a ‘booby prize’.

A local newspaper columnist, Ben Travato, asserted recently that “Referendum” is Latin for: “Let the morons decide.” Similar statements have recently been made about Democracy itself; albeit in Democracies it would seem the “moron” element are those already chosen: as the random socmed stuff that’s trending routinely in one’s In- basket spaces suggests.

So it seems, when one looks at the curious antics of British legislators, over a past series of debates and votes, about whether it is better to submit to generational servitude as a vassal state, appended to the European venture… Or crash off a cliff into a void, for which the country is about as well equipped as say…. “Pass the parcel”….

OK. One can’t really say. There are no real precedents for a modern developed nation state, deciding on some seemingly mercurial whim, to cut intimate ties with its biggest market; in fact the world’s biggest market: in order to…..  “Pass the Parcel!”

So again: one can’t really say… All we’ve heard, by way of preparation, are odd random slogans that have a weird sameness to the desperate slogans of the late Soviet era or the late Saddam’s late voice meister.

The latest slogan indicating that desperation measures are up, to avoid being the last schmuck standing. This sees opposing [English not British} teams  joining in the latest `MANTRA”: National Unity… paraded with desperate conviction that the country could survive being abruptly plunged into a ravening sharkpool.

Who wants to be blamed?

On one hand there is the great historical heritage: on the old slippery slope. On the other hand there is a humongous burden of care.

So… “Pass the Parcel”… quickly: before the bell rings to clock time out.

What they are proposing is at heart a Revolution…  A “tide of times taken at the flood” that might just possibly lead on to Fortune…  But while they played Parcels the tide went out…

So. What will it be? … Quick: “Pass the Parcel!”

Again… No One knows. The world is faced with the enigma of the whole insane business… And that is somehow scarily close to what moronic was originally defined to mean.

As the old cliché goes… When you fail to plan then you plan to fail … Has Mrs. May opted for a form of masochistic, vengeful- self-immolation… disguised as free choice. “My choice” or the Highway…

Or could there be a more simple truth: separation anxiety rules.

Quick… “Pass the Parcel.”

To be continued.

Meanwhile diarise:  #Data must share rent.

Hello Prekariat

?Blog 18 Feb 2018:  Introducing the Prekariat.

I heard a new word a few days back; and heard it in such a way that the poet in me merged with the political economist: and I had immediately to find out what it meant. And it was in none of my dictionaries… that are admittedly now all somewhat elderly, like their owner.

In context I had been following one of the many talks on business strategy that feed through on YouTube; and the relevant file ended while I was consolidating my notes. As you probably know, unless you hit a cancel button within a few seconds the auto shift takes over and an algorithm that has decided what your interests are, opens another, relatively random file, and that happened while I was distracted…

So there was a load of chatter in the background of my awareness and suddenly an authoritative voice, that was so confidently assertive it caught my attention, announced to the world that it was imminently: “Off to Brussels to represent “The Prekariat”.

WTF I thought … am I suddenly in a Sci-Fi channel movie…  Or,  back with something as weird as the Annunaki?    What is “The Prekariat” that it required such an authoritative delivery, of something previously unknown… and found it not in my dictionaries?

What I discovered when I eventually Googled the word, was at once: diskoncerting, satisfying and fascinating.

Most satisfying was the discovery that I was not alone.

Diskoncerting was the realization that this company, I was now apparently keeping, is on an escalating growth curve. So I will inevitably have more and more friends, and how will we all live?

And how will we all live is the single most important question to be answered over the next half century… and either we are already working on this with all seriousness… or is the reason why the person who coined the term Prekariat describes our kolektive emergence as being potentially extremely dangerous.

This word appeared on my journey to indicate why I felt that those people who think of themselves as “Liberals” are staring heavily at what the Chinese call a “Grey Rhino”. And broadly that Grey Rhino was the discovery that again piqued my fascination.

Assuming you haven’t hit the Google ‘word check’ button….  and are still intrigued, curious or maybe even indifferent to what this “new” word Prekariat means… it refers to a condition that is precarious… i.e.: lacks positive prediktability or security… a condition that on an economic level, to which its ‘coiner’ [sic] applies it, dramatically affects material and psychological welfare of the Prekariatee [sic] [Me in this instance… You maybe… One who exists prekariously in a financial sense.].

So what does all this mean, what does it have to do with Liberalism’s alleged shortcomings and how does this knowledge affect your thinking going forward… since forward is the only way our time machine allows us to go?

To be continued…. in our next: blog of blogs.

Loves ya all.

Nicholas.

Regarding Liberalism’s back-stop.

For the Left, whatever it is; “Liberalism” is a stand in for the Financialisation effect that seems to be hijacking Democracy: whatever that was meant to be….

And so-doing catapulting we, humanity, back into a pre-democratic;  neo- feudal, neo-cottage world of elites plus their  entourages of well wishing  ‘lackeys’: versus the rest…  those “left behind”.

On the other hand… To the Right [again whatever that is] Liberalism is a metastasizing disease,  that has eviscerated ordered life: as represented by the bonds of family, community, and customary practices.

According to a writer called Patrick Deneen – “Why Liberalism failed” … “Liberalism has left people economically, culturally and religiously unmoored.”

Since this was its purpose Liberalism therefore can be considered a success; and so the real question is: “What comes next?”

And that is where Liberalism’s difficulty lies.

It has given us a world that is safer, healthier and more survivable than at any time in known human history… And that goes for more of the planet’s populace than ever in the record. So are we so disgruntled with what works that we might jettison it in favour of Authoritarian? Anti-liberalist politics?

That meme in us, that demands we korekt ourselves: self-kontrol us. Or/and… That we should also be Kontrolled: Have a ‘big brother’ in charge so we can avoid that stuff. It has given us legendary and even post, post-modern models of destructive self-effacement.

i.e. Do this, this way or die. It is self –effacing. Proven to be counter productive to cultures ranging from ancient Spartans to post-modern soviets.   This may be contrary to our most useful survival skills.  Especially given the evolving physical nature of the world presently.

Or

Is Liberalism threatened because it is so successful that it has effectively become Causeless… Punch drunk in fact: with the effervescence of success?

And if the latter then what could its cause be? Some missed relic of the past, like multi-gender public toilets… that need renovation.  Big cause that .

Or

A new campaign from a,  so totally unexpected corner,  revealing something so obvious yet so TOTALITARIAN in its reach: that no one noticed the oddness of it… YET.

And this so obvious idea, that we don’t seem to have noticed… fulfills Mr. Luce’s demand for something so radical, no one ever thought of it… Well except me…  [it seems]. But then, I understand there was a time when both Max Planck and Copernicus were the only people on earth in their respective times who believed their idea. So it starts here. [If nowhere else.]. [And of course I could be wrong… I’m often wrong…. Although so far no has told me why.]

Mr. Maslow referred to the ultimate motivator of human behaviour as Self-actualising. This insight described a characteristic of what could once have been called the Western Canon”. Now gone global: even China will wrestle with it, with huge re-education camps for Uyghur’s for instance.

Self-Actualisation, is ultimately, a drive that must, erase all boundaries that need to be erased to liberate any particular human mind.

And liberate from what?

From inherited meme clusters, that have accompanied our long journey from a time on all fours: and that trap us in what are in reality different points of view.  In the words of Nietzsche “all things are now possible”; subject that, as J.S. Mill [among many] observed… “Your right to swing your arm ends where your fist meets my nose”.

I.o.w. From a liberalist point of view: religions, personal identity, family identity, family itself, geographic identities including national barriers: are each, no more than options, among many.

Alternately. To others these values are the foundations of civil behaviour: and are trustable precedents…. A trustable definable world: “The Here and Now” in Mannheim’s terms. To be defended at all costs, if necessary. And war is the final option.

Phew: The liberalist roles encompass Equality and Liberty; a pair of uneasy bedfellows. The collisions between them call for an almost unprecedented level of tolerance.

That means a tolerance of differences between all of us,. The differences we encounter in pursuit of our common similarities. Those values that are part of our common search for a self-actualising self….

And all within legal and other normative systems, that have accordingly undergone immense change over a relatively short time period, in order to accommodate, one without infringing profoundly on the other.

But all of this history is founded on the unspoken idea that things will continue as they were while changing… And this is not valid. For instance: Some half a billion jobs have disappeared since the great recession and there is little evidence of their return.

In his book “The retreat from Western Liberalism” the writer Edward Luce says on page 197: “Champions of UBI [Universal Basic Income] depict it as a magic wand for the complex problems we all face…. [However] UBI is silent on the future of work.”

It is here however that Mr. Luce himself fails the journey to self-actualization along with everyone else. For in reality it is Liberalism itself that is silent on the future of work.”  And it is apparent from the vast swathes of revenue being created from the New OILFIELDS  that “WORK” has morphed for most into something no one ever thought of.

And given that most modernizing economies today derive more than 60% of their national earning from services. Most, based on data.

Liberalism is also silent on the associated reality regarding DATA; that, along with everyone else, it has missed.

In other words Liberalism missed the encore.  And ironically so too have every TAXATION  authority on the planet apparently.

And so accordingly we have in this past decade created some of the greatest slave workshops in the story of our long evolution from the wilds.  [see my blog Kolonisation of the Mind]

Data is the new oil.  That is a Reality.

DATA is now yielding massive RENTS in one direction, OR IN A BIG CORTPORATE CIRCLE.

DATA must share the RENT with the suppliers.

That is the cause and the mission is to achieve it.

More on this idea in the forthcoming blog.

Liberalism’s Endgame…

N

December 18th201

What destiny liberalsim

The British entanglement with themselves over whether or not they should leave the European Union with a seriously bad arrangement or with no post-membership arrangement at all, is proving close to intractable currently.

The present furor seems odd; certainly to the rest of us who don’t live there.  They apparently had an issue that most of us don’t understand, with being members of the world’s most exclusive Trillion-dollar club… one to which many would like to belong, including me.

Admittedly the majority who voted to leave was a fairly slender one… but nonetheless it was a majority: and those rules imposed on the world by the advances of Liberalism over the past cluster of centuries since the beginning of the modern era, say that you have to live with it.

The losers, i.e. the Remainers want a rerun. The Leavers see the whole idea of a re run as a scandalous violation of democratic freedom. Freedom is the world of Adult decisions and Ultimately, People were free to choose and the lies that politicians use to achieve their, whatever, ends: are as old as the whole idea of politics itself:  to confuse. If you voted for the lies then live with it… or should we

Basically: If there are leavers who were too disinterested to find out what they were voting for, well tough; that’s their problem. Live with it… that is the Liberalist vision.

In his 1985 publication: “How Wars End”, the British Historian, A.J.P. Taylor makes a cruelly fascinating point referring to a decision by the British government in 1822 that finally killed off the Congress of Vienna attempts to build a mediating process to end wars. He says. “Not for the first time the British government took the line that if there was a liberal government out of hand somewhere it should be allowed to lead its country to destruction.”

So let it be two centuries later as Britain slides almost inexorably towards a suicide cliff suggesting that National suicide is an option to protect the liberal vision.

So. Regarding BREXIT and Liberalism: Does Theresa May represent the endgame of the liberal ethic turned strictly Ideological Determinism with suicide an option?

Or

What?

Having lived cheek by jowl with ideologically determined crazies my whole life I don’t really see Mrs. May as such a person. I see her as a person who wanted, and voted, to Remain in the Union and in the interests of full disclosure; were I a voter there, I too would have voted to remain in that wonderfully comfortable snug Trillion dollar club, where all I had to do was count my chickens, and think  GREEN.

I have a ghastly vision of the residents of a luxurious, if not the Best comfort care home in town waking up after 40 years of almost smothering care, to the horror of being tossed out onto the Common: and having to rush off in their respective dotages, to sing for their supper… I.o.w. I see it as ‘national suicide’…

In fact if it were anything but, then the obstreperous loud-mouthed BREXITEERS who supported and promoted the whole idea would not have rushed post-haste to resign their roles within hours of the shock decision being made. They couldn’t move fast enough to duck the blame that is now being leveled at the “nice” lady: who was the only person with the balls to take on the desperately unwanted job.  Even the leader of the main Opposition Party has carefully avoided accidentally being elected, so he could avoid being blamed for the pending catastrophe.

None had  any idea of how to turn the place into a thriving, freely operating union, outside the European one… And two years later have still failed to present any plan other than the famed “muddling through” axiom in defense of what currently promises to be an apocalyptic event.

So the task of negotiating an exit fell on the most unlikely person; and the core implicit element that appears to be missing is trust… And given how little trust is apparent  with the back-stop open-ended condition, with which a desperate Mrs. May played cat and mouse [badly]…  the country is placed in an invidious position.

It is caught between the reluctance of the EU leaders to see the country leave their warm embrace and the actual divorce. And as most people know afterwards, Divorce is rarely anything less than messy and loaded with recrimination. And Mrs. May has not helped matters with her fudging efforts to appear reasonable and willing.

There is also something about the back-stop arrangement she is attempting to sell that seems unsavoury to this observer.

The key argument in favour of leaving according to the deeply elusive BREXITEERS is the issue of Sovereignty. If Britain wanted to leave NATO, for instance, or even the United Nations, then she could just resign and leave; That would be an expression of Sovereignty

However the backstop has a provision apparently that excludes any unilateral behaviour by Britain to escape from their proposed retention inside a customs union to protect Northern Ireland [a part of the United Kingdom] from fractious dealings with their neighbour, the Irish Republic.  So as I wrote before, the country is preparing to be neither in, nor out, of the EU.

In fact should Britain decide a few years down the line that they will exit the Custom arrangement and become properly free this can only be done by mutual agreement.

This has resulted in irate rumblings from the BREXITEERS who mumble on about ‘Vassalage’: a valid point given that remaining in the Customs Union would dramatically, apparently, restrict The UK’s ability to deal with the rest of the planet unilaterally, while still having to pay dues and having zero voting rights… a distinctly dodgy deal.

Something that seems, however, to have been missed in the argument over the Back-Stop arrangement’s focus on Ireland is the understanding of the word MUTUAL in the phrase ‘agreement to leave’. One almost suspects careful misdirection is in order.

Certainly the focus is so intensely on Ireland by British commentators that no English media seem to have noted that mutual refers to a potentially destructive game that can emerge between 27 remaining members of the Union and the Leaver [UK]. The EU has 28 members remember. Mutual, in the agreement, surely means that 27 members must unanimously agree that the 28th can go. What if some don’t? Certainly I have heard no comment by the English on this.

For instance a cynic like myself could argue that Gibraltar emerges from that package called “THE DEAL”, as a prime “Queen’s pawn to a checkmate”: suggested by [again, for instance] a reasonably obdurate Spain; still rankling at being forced under duress to cede the place away under the Treaty of Utrecht, more than three hundred years ago…

Utrecht was a treaty from which Britain benefitted more than any ally or other contestant. Spain is in fact still negotiating with the descendants of the Jewish community expelled from the country in 1492… Such matters continue to press on after the mob has forgotten their rage. One hardly imagines they [the Spanish] would forget being forced to give up Gibraltar.

It is difficult for this observer to decide which message Mrs. May has chosen, to matter most in her frantic determination to serve the nation with her unwanted task. There was “Strong and stable” then “Global Britain” …  Or the latest tell: that what she does is “In the national Interest.”

Perhaps Gibraltar is not in the National interest.

So since that interesting arrangement sees Gibraltar as the potential sacrificial pawn in the game; She could be bartering away her country’s access to the Mediterranean at exactly the moment she was frantically dancing around with children in my country claiming to become “Global Britain”. Presumably the Falklands could be next…  And then what about those delicious tax haven islands. Plenty to barter away: to achieve the mandate of the people.

So as I said at the start; their position has become intractable and my own view would be, that since the actual ‘run for the hills’ barking dog Brexiteers have made a minimal to zero contribution to the reality that Mrs. May faces: the most sensible thing the Parliament can do is to dump the Deal and call for a re- vote based on a more realistic evaluation of the reasoning for the furore.

If a second vote says leave then no one can claim ignorance of reality.

I wish you all a glorious festive day or twelve

Revelations 501…

Note: You may have to deal with unexpected spelling differences. How you deal with them presents you with a chance to measure yourself. It represents what was said of Nietzsche: someone I once had the privilege to play, in a live stage performance in the year 2000, primarily for the world `Nietzsche Konference”. “It could be said that the job of the philosopher is to unsettle our fixed certainties and challenge our Konviktions.”

In my previous blog I was exploring an idea that is being bandied about kurrently, regarding the [so-called} “Retreat of Liberalism”. This means that I am investigating further why the spirit of liberalism [whatever it is] is running out of relevance for so many people.

In the process the word “Revelation” sneaked unexpektedly into my range of thought this past week. I was looking for a synonym for “suddenly”, a word I despise using and always go in search for more interesting options, notwithstanding that some things are simply: ‘suddenly’, like the neighbour’s tree crashing into my garden in a ferocious storm three nights ago, and along with “unexpektedly”. So Revelations was, surprisingly, an option for a choice.

So this had me thinking about Revelations, the word. The word it self… not the denotative idea that it relates to a chapter in a book, otherwise described as a collage of apocryphal histories. ‘The Revelation” was a future that, according to many, has already arrived.

Somehow I automatically associated the word Revelation with this particular closing chapter and such ideas as apocalypse, prophecy and illumination… Perhaps for a reason that follows shortly… So it was odd to find the word connotatively associated with words like: truth, suddenly, discovery, inexpectation, and disclosure… in addition to prediction.

It also confirmed for me that the issue affecting Liberalism… also fell into the category of revelation.

So such a truth in ‘revelatory’ [sic] format was that liberals, it would seem, have become alienated from their kore society, through an obsession with ‘others’ and being ‘nice’ to them. And hence it seems, have learned/chosen to despise those now called the “left behind”. They are also not able to see why; because they are, like others of other ideological pursuasion, in a memic cage around which they tramp frantically.

The more specifically, standard view of the word “Revelation”, as the key word referencing the future, was forcefully introduced to me on an historical [for me] occasion, many dekades back, when, in the company of some others: we were harangued at gunpoint, for a number of hours, by a man calling himself a ‘Krusader for Truth’.

And “Revelations” [the book of one, John the Divine] was the subject of that hostage period declamation. That and some THEY type fellows who were participating in what has now become an almost stereotypical, devious ‘conspiracy to take over the world thing’; enslave people, or do something more elusively presented: and forcefully tested: to check that we were listening.

Chiefly we [who were being harangued] were impressed with some idea that he [the Krusader] was ‘chosen’ and would soon ‘vanish’ in some kind of alleged “Rapturous awakening” with destiny… And we in the room presumably would be left in the shit

Fortunately violence was/still is such a normal part of our lives that calmness prevailed. One should always avoid arguing with a man holding a gun in his hand… Especially when everyone else in the room has got a few of their own, available: at a hand’s breadth distance from their bodies… [It was the old days remember].

So the fellow eventually, ran out of rant and buggered off… and we finished drinking the beer he’d interrupted.

I fictionalized a more satisfactory version of that small event in my life, and gave the nub of the scene as a back-story to one of my favorite characters in the Buffalo Hunters: which you can obtain at Amazon.com.http://amzn.to/2FSOgwq
[Hint there are about forty books on Amazon with that title. Only one looks like mine … a different kind of ‘buffalo’: It is an Urban Thriller.]

Nonetheless; over the years that followed, I travelled on business to many, many parts; far away and usually by the end of my time there, which was invariably three to five days, I had caught up my notes and run out of stuff to read. Mobiles weren’t invented yet; and an airplane usually had to be caught at about 3 am. … And I didn’t need to be caught out napping, for a flight from some vanishing point to another.

So there was often a book called Gideon, always lying somewhere in most of the rooms, I inhabited briefly… And there was always this crazy chapter: Revelations that I would read, against the background of that memorable afternoon. Never made much sense to be honest but it was always puzzling enough, to keep me awake until the call that the taxi had arrived for the airport. I could also never really pin down all his ranting references.

Nonetheless after my own personal apocalypse a quarter century or so ago; what I call a ‘Zen Konspiracy’ took hold of me; and became my personal Revelation: discovery and truth.

I gradually decided that had to write to write about those who remained, in that “Krusader’s” world of the unchosen. That krusader chappie ranted about being part of the chosen that would vaporize somehow: and be rescued from what had to come. Apparently only enough people to fill a handful of football stadia were to be “chosen”… The rest of us were left behind.

Based on some odd things that are associated with that experience, I decided that the UNCHOSEN’…. That is All of us, who read this … assuming [I write fiction remember] that the prophesied apocalypse has actually begun…. were the ‘Nicer’ people… And I would describe the world in which they would live, when the other lot vanished one day…. And in hope there was no prophesied apocalypse… in the same way that 2012 came and went I would simply evaluate the world that is emerging.

And so I invented my own trigger for the apocalypse… What I called the “Nuclear triple double tap” that produced an harmonic dissonance in the Planet’s rhythm, that I called the Ringing… In other words: where the planet lost its tune and went into dischord. So much for Revelations… What was of course more interesting were the other meanings that I serendipitously encountered.

For instance another more recent “Revelation” for me this week, was the idea that a group of Pomeranian [UK] Cabinet Ministers could, at command of their leader Theresa May, speed-read on steroids, like mad.

They apparently demonstrated that skill by receiving, reading, digesting and formulating comment, on a 585 page document that was to be the separation agreement to achieve the idea called BREXIT. [Note that while each page may only have had one word on it, most legal documents have at least 300… Meaning: as much as 175,000 words]

Apparently to limit leakages to the ‘norty’ press, the cabinet were allegedly handed this 585 odd page copy of the proposal, some three minutes before going into a five-hour cabinet harangue on the subject…

The realization that a coherent explanation of the withdrawal agreement [in the 585 pages] could be grasped in less than 3 minutes; and was accepted by all offical kommentators on all channels as realistic, was revelationary [sic].

The time apparently allocated, 3 minutes, was also dramatically Revelationary in another way. For much of my life in the country where I live it was common cause that a person could be tried, found guilty, sentenced and sent away for life… for what was called a “pass” offence, in approximately three minutes. That idea was considered so justifiably heinous that the world united to help rid us of our bad government. We’re busy again right now again dealing with another bit of bad government. That one can decide the legal future of a country, in roughly the same time was to say the least, a mind blowing thought. Presumably the Pom Parliament will not be so easily gulled… at least two Cabinet members demonstrated a measure of resilience.

Another interpretive view of ‘revelation’ was the idea of discovery. In The Jonker Memorandum, [the podcast series associated with this web site,] listeners would remember that the ‘End of the World’ hypothesis, forming the back-story, to the main story, began with a sequence of underground nuclear detonations, that kolektively were referred to [by me] as a “Nuclear triple double tap”. 1998 was the year that I chose for a sequence of events [that actually occurred] during that year, in order, to “end the world” in a fictional sense.

I did this solely so that I could justify introducing Universal Basic Income into the world and working out how it could be paid for … And knowing now [i.e. what I didn’t ‘know’ then] that the payment source already exists; and has been unilaterally discounted to zero without thought or konsideration … That was another version of Revelation recently… Discovery again.

Disclosure: [Another version of revelation] I always understood that it was standard for writers embarked on futuristic fiction to describe how people in the future lived on “Credits”… But the teenage children with whom I exchanged classroom views on matters involving accounting, business and economics for the past quarter century, would challenge me with: What does ‘credit’ mean? How does it happen? and further: WHY WHY WHY… as was their responsibility.

All as ways of avoiding the really hard stuff like remembering what was in the textbook… Not my curriculum preferred/ determined stuff: unless you are explaining Adam Smith’s idea of “Economic Rent”… So you got UBI and as soon as my personal Revelation this year relevant to the vexing issue of how it should be paid for arrived, I shared it with you all on BLOGS: Invisible friend, Kolonisation of the Mind, And Exchange Value. [I did it quickly in case the evildoers, whoever they might be, returned to stop the rot.]

It is my konsideration that eventually the idea presented being so logical and so “THERE” and “AHA!!!” it will be shared by a million or more people. The momentum will bring it about by organic Revelation. Not to mention that as a free market proselytizer by choice: I don’t see this solution as being necessarily State sponsored… where Mr Luce’s faultline has its home. But for that you will have to follow the stories.

Notwithstanding this cluster of variables on the theme ‘Revelation’; there was another, far more scary discovery ‘revelation’, associated with the more traditional ‘prediction type ‘revelation’. Wikipedia [a source, subject to normal caveats and possible ‘fake news’ info] informs me that as many as 53% of all major Hiroshima and bigger scale seismic events over the past 2500 years have occurred since 1998. Not a Revelation I relish.

For the record as at last December the total number recorded that fitted the criteria [6 or more on the Richter scale] over some 2500 years was, as at start 1998: 413. In other words about 11 every decade… less than 2 per year, on a gently escalating upward curve. Since 1998 however; there had, by last December, been 414. More specifically, roughly 20 per year

And they keep happening.

Now I accept that I am arriving at this conclusion from a possibly slightly inaccurate source, to the extent that we count some, and not others, from the past; that either were not measured and/or unknown. But of the known’s: 53 % and rising is an uncool Revelation in the empirical discovery category. [Nonetheless: until it becomes official, I shall continue to practice the writing of fiction: by definition imaginary… Ergo: some random bloggist’s rambling on a favored theme is simply self-serving and not of any relevance… perhaps… In my fictional world things get bad for places on the coast… And I don’t live near a coast.]

So to summarize: a smattering of Revelationary empirics and how do they relate to the liberal idea:

My first revelationary experience relevant to liberalism [whatever it is supposed to be] came via the indefatigable Mr. T. who as we know is President of the Firmian Union. Like the rest of the world I watched his 90-minute session with the media on the morning after his Republican Party lost the House of Representatives. How would he react? Was the pressing question…. Would he bluster and prevaricate or what?

One of the ‘implacable rules’ of my classroom over many decades was/is the dictum that there is no such thing as failure, only opportunities to recharge and get it right. Pres T…. took the road sometimes travelled; and once he had heaped praise on his winners and disparaged, brutally in the case of one vanishing rep, the losers; especially those who had been his enemies, he presented the prospect of an amazing bargain deal: that could be just what the people need. In fact he was almost “liberal”.

In response we listened to a quorum of the best that the broadly unsympathetik media could offer. They who questioned Mr.T were, for the most part, dancing with such frenzy on their kollektive memes, it was its own revelation. No one actually demonstrated that they even marginally grasped the significance of what he offered; they were so intent on digging up their own bones… they simply discounted it and heard NO thing.

I was deliciously surprised by his approach… and instantly grasped its significance to one who plays the “Long game”. And the nature of the risk that he spelled out. We have routinely viewed ideologues at work where we live. Liberals, assuming any of those kolektion of press corps persons would be called Liberals [whatever they weren’t] demonstrated a response so ideologically defined it completely cancelled the name… Liberal. As ‘Bones” would have put it they were operating on “Outmoded preconceptions”. They were unable to grasp the inherent pragmatism; and lost the moment to share in the idea that ‘the people’… whom Liberals apparently adore… Do not have to come second.

A reinforcing but ultimately equally convincing revelation regarding what has become the ‘Achilles heel’ of this [so-called] Liberalism ethic, came from a different source. An English journalist called Edmund Luce has published a heavily praised book, setting out the case for “the Retreat from Liberalism” [Abacus edition: Retreat from Liberalism]. And up to page 196 it was a solid and thoroughly absorbing read, with some stunningly memorable observations.

And then the wheels came off in one line… and revealed his passion, as just a ‘nicer’ form of ideological dékolleté. He also revealed implicitly why a contemporary version of Liberalism is running on empty. In the next few paragraphs we shall explore why.

The ‘Rent Seekers’, or Rentier class, as economist Steve Keen korektly kalls the parasitic elements, that feed on the globalised casino market economy… The only game in town really. These ‘Rentiers’ have, through their greed and indulgence, sucked the relevance from the lives of the ordinary folk left behind.

Their orgy of self-enrichment over the past few decades has been good, for the rent konfirmers [they who got rich]; and their friends. However the entire system is pretty well running on empty. This is a reason for the growing global economic slowdown that no one wants to discuss. Simply the businesses of the world are running out of kustomers… More and more reports of robot takeovers are being noted even as I write this.

I hear right now a local Trades Union group called NEHAWU making a radio appeal for its members to have their jobs guaranteed after some form of automation is introduced into their world. The AM Live phone-in host, a well-known local “liberal” journalist and radio kommentator, simply acknowledged the kall and refused to diskuss the worker’s kolektive terror… simply moved on the next kaller.

The “gig” economy sucks and is grossly overrated and for many is already a place of desperation. A point interestingly and lucidly made be the same Mr. Luce: who simply has missed how the dots should join up

For this ‘service based’ system to be sustained: it is necessary to keep nourishing the base. Watering the garden, as it were. Too great a disparity between top and middle to lower … is fundamentally bad for sales… and will be the core trigger for the next almost pending recession, which may well persist for longer than considered normal given the massive impetus fuelled by the era of Quantitative Easing [QE]: and assuming we resist large scale warfare.

Enter UBI [Universal Basic Income]. What Mr. Luce and thus most so-called Liberals [whatever they are] missed was that QE was no more than UBI for the “Betters” [if I may use a slang feudal term]

And thus UBI is not some concession for the working poor… and the universal ‘Dalits’ of society, as such a worthy liberal thought defender as young Edmund Luce, piously intones on page 196 to top paragraph page 197. Then to kompound his broad indifference to ‘our’ working poor he kontinues with the sentence: “We must think more radically than that…”

What kan be a more radical notion than that DATA provides the foundation for the complete transformation of society in a way that only such writers as Heinlein, Asimov and Herbert grasped?

They did not spell it out though. Similarly our author, then changes the subject: leaving us with his ‘inexpektation’… An unfulfilled stillborn revelation; revealing that like all other kommentators currently: he has missed the Revolution it went past so fast. No wonder Liberalism is in retreat… Are they in fact: Left Behind?.

After all, I recently heard Christine Lagarde of the IMF having to point out to a serried group of ‘experts’, on a Bloomberg interview, that they needed to remember that the Fintech variation, that has come to dominate financial activity world–wide today is not yet eight years old… The financial services industry itself, goes back at least five thousand years… And in its present ‘market capitalist’ format, about five hundred years… Until the past few decades their contribution tho GDP was fairly nominal. Now it supercedes many other more traditional sources,. And that is [partially] a result of an eight year old industry FINTECh.

Where I live people call traffic lights: “Robots”, a meme that has survived for the century or so when the first one in the country was heralded in headlines the “Arrival of the ROBOTS”… thanks to Karel Capek’s play RossumsUniversalRobots: a hit of that era in our turf. Luce produces a similar old meme as reflexive response to the helping hand conceptualized through UBI… and as I’ve pointed out, carelessly ignores Quantitative Easing… That for the benefit of those who may be confused was a process whereby, in simple terms, TWENTY odd TRILLION US [Firmian] dollars of imaginary money was given to the “BIG” people so they wouldn’t crash due to their bad lending practices. Interest rates basically ZERO. Robots for traffic lights is in every way an outmoded preconception,or more simply, a bad habit. Believing that basic pay would be bad for worker morale takes outmoded to a new dimension.

So. No. Universal Basic Income is not a handout for the poor… As Salinas piously observed 2500 years ago: “The best thing for the poor is that they were never born…” No. UBI is totally production based AND IS EARNED.

It is simply not Accounted for, like in the income statement of the receivers. And WHY ISN’T IT? Should be the question. There is plenty of whining I note regarding the “curious distortion” that the new techno revolution has produced so little additional productivity… Naturally, when many billions of billions of Bytes a year of data are produced at zero value: and are therefore not accounted for… By definition the creators of data… people: are going to become poorer… They/we are in a formal sense slave workers: something that is supposed to be illegal. Our world has almost instantly become a DATA driven world.

So #DATA must share RENT.

It is rather their/our universal share of the bounty that has resulted from the previously unobtainable access, to all planetary knowledge… at the touch of a finger… and the bundling of all of that information into so-called DATA… something else like fintech that formalized and demokratized a previously inackcessible resource that was the exclusive territory of multiple circles of diminishing “Innies”. This DATA that has, a moment ago really [Specifically, since the past 10% of my life began] transformed the daily running of our lives, is the bounty: to nourish the planet’s progress to the next level of transformation.

Not doing this will fuel the growing rage represented by the shift to right and left of centre parties [assuming such an anomalous pair of descriptions have any form of currency anymore and aren’t simply a pair of obsolete memes] For we are now in an age when the difference is between those people who are okay and keeping up: and those… the majority… left behind. The ElBies. [May include me… I feel deeply left behind]

You have just read/heard brief exchange from my new cluster of novellas [Part four of the Azanian Quartet] I shall present snippets of these in a new marketing thrust for Nicholas Jakari… in the New Year [2019].

NOTE: [Should you be puzzled by this idea ABOUT THE REVENUE SOURCE FOR UBI: please refer to my blog: Kolonisation of the Mind: nicholasjakari.com]

So it has been a time of Revelation: at many levels. Stressful, with major upsets and some glorious highs; and the gift of a life explored: a wonderful gift for a Stanislavskian writer. Time to reflect on each character and where in me they come from.

Eventually the freedom to choose, to appropriate data rents in an equitable manner, may be replaced by the further inequities of present, increasingly, perhaps inevitably, kurrupt practices; as the realization dawns that the world, in our historical understanding of that word: is undergoing a strangely destructive change…. And a good plan may involve taking to the hills: quite literally.

I look forward to sharing more of them with you in a new cluster of stories.

Cheers

!NiK[‘18]

How Liberalism vomited suicide

Or has made a powerful attempt anyway.

The London based Economist, my newspaper of choice over the past fifty years, when I could afford the indulgence on a schoolteacher’s stipend, and lash out on its cornucopic range, has, in its 175-year anniversary edition, chosen to whinge at length about how Liberalism, allegedly the ethic motivating the so-called ‘Western Canon” [not to mention the newspaper itself] is under siege.

Apparently mankind [sorry personkind or perhaps humanity itself; or should that be… hupersonity… oh dear…] has toddled on into ‘left behind’ anxiety driven populism while those professing; or simply even perhaps unconsciously, living the liberal theme: are “obsessed with bossy political korektness: and are out of touch with what matters to ordinary people”.

They have no grasp of what it means to be ‘ordinary’.

This means those allegedly dozing inhabitants of formally free, Western type democracies, are in deep danger of being enslaved; or overthrown by evil forces bent on enslaving it in a debt drenched morass:[for those who didn’t think we were already in such a place] thereby heralding an existence equitable with feudal servitude.

Those who would do this are [allegedly] using proxies.

These take the form of enraged or despairing LB’S [Left Behind’s remember] Or what That other Kontender kalled: “Deplorable’s” … and there are far too many; and they are all winning… and its … Oh dear.

It was a generally sad read.
With an intriguing denouement
In its closing akts.

One could argue that Liberalism is a dead duck… The Economist hopes it isn’t. All It does tell us, is that the philosophical idea called Liberalism is of “broad faith” … Broadly in the sense that all things are ok… As long as no one is stealing my particular piece of cheese [presumably].

In fact, is has been so demonstrably of “broad faith”, that it tacitly supports murder at one end of its relativist spectrum: and broad welfare at the other.

To the extent that[so-called] refugees from places that are so horrible to live in, that everyone rushes out; to the glee of the remaining despots: tacitly supported by liberals through a process of the well spun: relativist, Orwell defined: double think double talk; moving to infinite series’ squared off rubrics: that have so defined the financialised years… Remember. They were those years where everything, including syndicated servitude and tax funded enterprise, was/is packaged: and becomes available for sale to those who come to take the edge off the rising rate of interest.

“Spin” is for sale to the best bidder.

It’s almost like the word is out that the world, as we know/knew it, is entered into a period of transformation. The known is ending; and that we are in its end days [for now]. And the future is as always uncertain. So its grab whatever kan be grabbed; live well, ‘eat drink and be merry’… for the boogie person comes.

This is a generally long-standing viewpoint stretching back hundreds of eons and who is to say we didn’t do all this before? And forgot… other than for this ‘boogie person’ malady. What if the people who left their post – Neolithik indicators at somewhere like Gobekli Tepe, for instance, drank to the end of the world; once they worked out the only way to kommunikate to those who might find their real message: millennia later after all was forgotten.

Noting that there are places in the world where one could be “vanished” like a certain Mr.Jamal Khashoggi, this past week, who it seems entered the Saudi Embassy in Turkey and never exited. he has ‘vanished’ apparently. One could perhaps say that Liberalism is suffering from ‘Kompliance Error’…. Being generally [and allegedly] more concerned with being more than fair, to those who have ‘suffered’: whilst being soft on the wounds of their local neighbors.

And sometimes perhaps you have to lose something or come close to its loss: to appreciate what you think you had… or perhaps vaguely remember what you think you had… and whether it was better or worse, than what is now about. You could at least decide “What the Fuck” is all this about?

Maybe you may be a reader who is not sure what this “Liberalism” is about?

So Liberalism is ultimately an idea about choice; and where, on a matrix of at least two intersecting variables, society as a whole functions. It is a broadly flexible idea…

A society that offers its citizenry the widest possible range of options by which people can live their lives and make a business successful, is more liberal that one that restricts opportunities for a range of cosmetic reasons.

To assist confused readers The Economist newspaper uses a guideline developed by one of their [former] workers.

The worker: Edmund Fawcett, suggests that there are four elements to Liberalism:

First
• Society is ACCEPTED as a place of Konflikt.
• This Konflikt should be engendered to be systemic.
• Thus supporting Kompetition for ideas.
• So Kompetition must/should prevail.

Second:
• Society is dynamic.
• Hence Improvable.

Third:
• Distrust all power.
• Especially Koncentrated power.

Fourth:
• Individuals have rights. Irrespektive of the power strukture of the State.
• The individuals inhabiting it must all have an equality of positive respect for their civic rights:
• and “thus the importance of personal, political and property rights.”

It is noted, of course, that there are far too many places where all individuals are equally disrespected by the authority strukture of the State.

Equally there are all too many that use selective amnesia to deal with rights violations.

There are also many places that have wonderful baskets of rights: without an economy that can sustain them.

So the Economist summarises thus: “Today liberalism needs to escape its identification with elites and the status quo and rekindle the reforming spirit.” In which it was apparently born.

In the interests of full disclosure I should mention that in regards to matters civically economic: if one may coin a phrase; I tend to favour such philosophic icons as Hayek, Nozik, Von Mises and Mikhail Bakunin who famously said: “A Boss in Heaven is the best excuse for a Boss on earth; therefore if God did exist he[she?]would have to be abolished.”

One has noted over one’s decades of use, that the Economist prefers to put such ‘radikal’ thinkers into its “naughty kids in the Korner” box. Any explanations are peppered with giveaway “Buts” and “Yes: Buts”.

And thus I should say that it would seem that Liberalism, has, perhaps, in its rush to be kompliant with all and sundry, itself diskarded klose attention to Mr. Fawcett’s third and fourth criteria.

In essence the problem of Post-Modern Liberalism is that it has become kompliant; and has too frequently been busted substituting the effortless activity of “NICENESS”: for the deep ethics motivating the Rule of Law; and Accountability, for undue acts.

The backlash is now demanding due attention. And the trend is unfolding. The cards are slipping and sliding. The “society” is also now more truly Global, than it was… albeit only minimally more inclusive.

It may also be about to shake and pulse with the, as always, unwanted ekonomiks of Kompetition. Specifikally between ideas rooted in Fawcett’s world of imagination: clashing with the harsh and grinding reality inherent to those ideas prevailing in those worlds ranging from autarkik disinklination to savage autokracy.

In closing I would note simply, that, serendipitously, last Sunday 30th September was [according to my local newspaper] the two thousand four hundred and ninety eighth anniversary of the Battle of Salamis [2498 BP = before present ].

This Battle was won by a massively outnumbered, combined force of citizens of the Hellenes, in a naval battle, that to this day has never been equaled, for its mass slaughter of the combatants, mostly Persian slave warriors… some 40,000 of whom drowned that day.

Salamis embedded the idea, and set a 2500 year old standard; whereby free citizens trump [no pun intended] press ganged hordes… setting up the foundations for Fawcett’s liberal thought and society’s norms… And laid the base for the system, that has lifted individuals all over the planet to have lives infinitely more fulfilling, than it was; back then scrabbling in the dust for klues to the meaning of life.

SO

Shall Liberalism rest in peace? And where to shall we go?
Does the Ekonomist at last come to rekognise the validity of UBI?
And what have we now?

The Mekaniks of Planning

Jack Ma: Founder and Chief Executive of Alibaba, speaking in an interview on Bloomberg last Friday morning, said: “The last century was the time for competition of the muscle. This one is the century for competition of wisdom, of experience and of care.”

Mr. Ma had at that point been speaking with deeply infectious enthusiasm about the fact that more than a third of senior executives at Alibaba, an Amazon type eTailer with 600 million monthly customers, were women. He concluded his interview highlighting the difference women brought to his business: “Women represented softer power. It is not the machine guns: it is the CARE… ” He said at the close.

He also talked of retiring earlier than Mr. Gates did, to focus the energy of his Jack Ma Foundation on Education. Specifically on those skills that are at the forefront of demand for the 21st century post-industrial world … often referred to as the 4th Industrial Revolution [FIR] world.

In other words he wasn’t talking about specifically, mathematics or languages [He is a former English Teacher apparently] but rather a range of so-called, critical soft skills, that will be the main demand area for workers in a world run almost automatically.

His absolute certainty was that of the fabled “Man with a Plan”; The Randian legend so grimly loathed by whatever is left of the Left. Perhaps Ideology tends to defeat the reason planning requires.

Nonetheless his enthusiasm for his cause highlighted one of the less understood issues of our times, one that so routinely lies at the heart of many ills of society. I refer to the sheer power of a plan to achieve, almost psychically, its purpose.

Or NOT.

In other words the former president of the country in which this bloggist lives has been routinely accused of failing to achieve any of the plans he helped forge [pun intended] under a range of names during his era of leadership.

On the other hand he is also currently the subject of a fairly public, formal, legal investigation into his role, in the ultimately rumbled, achievement of a plan so successful it has resulted in the ‘disappearance’ of, possibly, more than ONE ENTIRE YEAR”S earning’s of the country… a circumstance that lies right at the heart of the shock announcement earlier this week that the country has officially slipped [again] into recession.

If you lost every cent you worked to earn last year, how long do you think it would take you to make up the loss? Bear in mind that today is also the tenth anniversary of the collapse of Lehman Bros, an event that catapulted the world into the [so-called] Great Recession. Another failed plan… aside from those parties who featured in the movie The Big Short … a movie about how three unrelated parties had a plan and made a fortune when the market crashed.

There is also much talk about rising income disparity problems; as those persons with a plan, outstrip the plan free: to the inchoate rage of the latter.

Part of that rage is at the heart of the amazing decision by an entire nation at the other side of the world to take a plan free leap of a cliff called BREXIT with absolutely no idea of what becoming “Global Britain” actually means other than a catchy phrase, like the one our former president used to beguile those who needed beguiling with his “Vision 2030”.

We were treated to a globally excruciating exercise in humiliation, this week, for instance, when the current minion representing the former colonial overlords, performed a cringe worthy attempt at step dancing, with a collection of [now] liberated [giggling] children… The idea that she was engaged in an exercise to swap a trillion dollar market for one on the edge of bankruptcy has not yet actually registered apparently.

A while ago I was asked to give a talk on planning to a networking group that I have joined, to force myself to leave my house occasionally, for a reason other than to get milk and meat.

My purpose I was told, was to focus only on personal planning, with application to business: rather than the vagaries of politicians, and other forms of disregard.

I told them that planning has four components:

What do you want to achieve?
How do you propose to achieve it?
What methods are you going to use to measure your progress?
How are you going to keep yourself; and any you are taking with you, motivated and committed to the plan?

The talk was successful I was told: and afterwards many of the audience [a mainly young audience of happy wannabe upwardly mobile persons] more than a few of whom said they had never linked all the various ideas into the word ‘planning’ before: and felt they had had a form of Satori.

So in the next blog or two i will go into some more specific details that comprise what I call ‘The Mekaniks of Planning’. As the Networkers at the Profound Conference Centre: Network and Partnership session noted; they already know the words; I was simply opening them up, giving them kontext, putting them in a chain: then sprinkling some spices. Think of it as a trial.

I have been totally engrossed in my own mission for the first half and a bit of this year. So it was something of a return to reality. Therefore through, re-investigating the topic; and figuring out how to take stuff, I would normally in past times have spread out over whole days: and get it all down to an hour, I became increasingly aware of how few alleged PLANS simply didn’t happen… And while excluding the idea that some people involved in plan a are secretly following plan b, I thought maybe it was because it is not something everyone understands; especially if your origins are associated with an authority structure that required one to DO: Not to think: of planning. It simply wasn’t an option for most.

And habits
are difficult to
break,
and can, in
frequent
collision
with purpose: prove
fatal to purpose..

Cheers

All Tax is Theft

The idea is an ancient one. My thanks to Mr. Robert Nozik for the phrase that forms the headline.

Economies are desperately difficult things to run at the best of times. In these times, where financial affairs operate in such exponentially accellerating frames per nanosecond time frames while bureacrats function at the same pace they did a century ago.

Presently the place where Jakari resides, has insisted on rebranding itself as part of a kolektion of territories on the planet, now called: “The Fragile Five”[ref: Bloomberg: this week.]

The rebranding currently involves a call to Konfiskate chosen properties without regard to Kompensation. This argument could take a few years. The “financial markets” are deeply konstraiined and a startled moment this week in emerging markets caused by some bad tempered behaviour on the part of a few of the new emerging [so-called] putative wannabe tyrannical STRONGMEN that are happening around the planet.

One strategy that has also become trendy again on a new circle is the labelling of things as: “Socialist” or “Capitalist”. Problem is the hybrid economy we now have morphed into, in practice, is at best neither: and at worst regressive. It is in fact a global casino economy that shifts about on monstrously huge battalions of debt; and to remain functional at all, at its best, it needs to move about the planet like a Olympian Ice ballet dancer. Then and for intangible reasons people become happier.

At its worst it becomes fractous. And thhings are getting faster. It is currently increasingly fractous; and the possibilty that one of the FAce Off men miscalculates his Tarentino role and missteps is on an upcurve. And then the parts of the world on the ends of the whip get cracked.

Do i write this out of habit. To an extent. The problem relates to money and the idea that MONEY is slippery elusive and routinely created out of mountains of debt and most fake… ie FIAT [a polite word for fake]. This means that the algorithms that manage the flow of money are increasingly, and exponentially what moves everything faster than politicians can finish speeches.

And; talking about algorithms that word wasn’t invented in its present contexts when i wrote the piece below in May 2000, eighteen years ago. That was then six years into this project, and two years after i had chosen to base my catastrophe that affected the planet, on an exchange of underground explosions of a nuclear form between two warring factions in South East GrAsia.

Six in all over a period of some six months. A situation that i assumed [wrongly i hoped] was equivalent to a triple nuclear double tap. During that year the six year old post revolutinary government in my part of the Fragile Five, announced punitive tax demands on those citizens who had been beneficiaries of a brutal slave system. Capital flight took the local currencies to lows so far down that it took at least fifteen years to reach them again.

At the height of the frenzy that year a political spokesperson for the [so-called] RULING [nogal] Party… [aren’t democracies governed rather than ruled… we were ruled, then we were liberated, now we are ruled again by the liberators???] announced a campaign for people everywhere to write poems about the economy so that the country could grow.

I was on a mission that year [2000AD]. I was between thoughts, texts and centuries. I had chosen to wrote a poem a day all year. Rule: one new poem every day… length: whatever happened. On that day i heard the call to write a poem about the economy and so i wrote “All tax is Theft”. [it turned out to be the longest of the 800plus pieces i wrote that year much of which was filed] This one was however a favourite. And compared to the auld days of 2000, the pace now, is exponentially thousands of times faster than then: and is mostly enacted by machines… that have no feelings.

Outside of the various classes with whom i used it that year to inspire a grasp of the insanity of money, you will be the first friends… May it liberate your thoughts on money and above all… Enjoy.

With love

All Tax is Theft

A response to a strident call from a Stakhanovite style apparatchik for ‘poems about the economy’. The call was made in the context of confiscatory “take it all back” tax proposals:

I never heard of that.

People who lived here yesterday!
The people of today have deleted
The people

From their consciousness, in order to cope

To demand of the world of today that it should pay for the

Like capital gains disruptions
Which are scary to all those marys
Who seriously dispose with

To demo’ overwhelming dash:
At the same time, with great care ,
Beneath an open stare.

Investors are owners of money.
They are not politicians or something
Else funny.
It may be in doubt they are human at all;
Concepts wired up
With a screen for a wall to show memory:
Spewing out models of risk
And uncertainty.
Measuring the loot of the world’s
Aging billions:
Cash that adds up to hundreds of trillions.
What you did last month doesn’t matter a jot
It’s what happening now that counts for the lot.

And performs in Peru
The red card is flagged from computer to you. The
Risk model says the risk

That risk you took last week has now
Gone and faltered.
So follow instructions: delete from the programme
That order we called
And that hold put on Put.
The rate must go up
Or the cash go on out.

Perceived expectations: perceived quantum
Risk
Modified market uncertainties
Frisk
Down our hopes
Batters our fears
Causes the money to stop
And change gears.

Perennial problems perplex perceived risk.
Confusion of outcomes presents the most risk
To one who man’s mountains of money: to plan and to
Do and to follow things through to
The end:
Which should always be happy.

Should this Hollywood twitch
Suffer a glitch… should heaven transform into hell
When success equals misery,
Inconsolable outrage,
Mixed in with
Anger
As

Then confusion will reign
The markets feel pain
And the cash is away before

In other words: In the world of money
Something is done; which is not at all funny:
A result is achieved, expected or not.
There are no relative gains
For corporate aims,
But returns, as predicted.
If results are in doubt,
Then someone with clout
Changes course,
Before loss is addictive.

When bosses complain, cash workers feel pain
And the outcome is bad for the homeowner’s loan and the girl
Who was Jill becomes Jane.

Race Free writing

“Set this silence free
To wash away the
Worst of me.”

In my Remains:… [off] Living Things. Linkin Park

To wash away silence is a theme of our times.

Some of you reading this may have come from my new site on Facebook

On this Facebook site for Nicholas Jakari you find examples promoted on Amazon of what I have decided to call: “Race free” writing.

As we get to know each other I may, on request, choose to explain all the motivations… they are set out over many years in many blogs; and observations on trends, in our fast changing world that nonetheless stays the same no matter what.

So here we shall deal with what, in the country where I live, is a serious threat to the long-term growth and prosperity of the region… Racial Antagonism… Ironic; given that the point of liberation was to defuse it… Albeit, understandably, slowly.

I am a poet first and foremost. Nicholas Jakari’s page is devoted to his work, and what it has to do with you. I have promoted many things in a long lifetime of working at staying alive. There are only a few poets who have ever become profitable I am told… I should like to be another. So I am presenting a different form of poetry to that in which, I was trained from the age of four.

In the interests of full disclosure: At age fifteen I started carrying a notebook and taking notes on thoughts things n whatever was an object/subject of curiosity in ‘the moment’.

You can understand that, living, as we did, in a vicious and deeply abusive police State, a poet making random observations about his surroundings and internal responses to them, in little notebooks tucked into a back pocket… soon lost whatever friends were around. And it saw me: ‘detained’, occasionally. I was “Notebook NiK” ; and when I appeared, people scattered: that dreadful evil man who “Kolekted” their words and occasional sayings was around… go now, scurry rush hide and hush.

This means that I have been routinely advised that my greatest weakness to be overcome, is difficulty networking with other humans… Strength on the other hand is networking with words.

So I am doing something I find difficult: inviting rejection by inviting you to be my friend on this journey I am taking… on an infinitely winding road… to a place where universal basic income has become the way most people earn their living via ‘rental’ levies on DATA following the acceptance that a byte of DATA should have a nominal value related to either a Firmian cent [aka the united states of Firmia… a place run by Firms] or an ounce of gold: whichever ruled at the time… And all currencies had become crypto, managed through inviolate blockchains.

Further disclosure … I did say full didn’t i?

Twenty four years ago this September the eleventh, [my September 11: before yours] I was presented abruptly with the need to widen my range as a writer.

I was going to be in a wheelchair within fifteen years, I was told. “A bullet in your spine will change your life.” They said. Via daily practice of Taiji Chuan, that has so far been avoided.

My personal style arose when I asked myself the question how do I, a person who is deeply traumatized and with life shattered; through a random act of irrational violence: that left three [ultimately] dead and me full of holes. How do I write a violent story, involving literally copious brutal murders; a story set in a place rooted in racial antagonism, without inflaming an inherent time bomb waiting for a lit fuse: because the story had the potential and I have the skill to do that.

That was though, not something I wanted, certainly few people I knew, wanted the reality of that horror.

So I decided as a poet that I would remove all reference to or even symbols associated with two specific words [the one that describes the colour of these words, and the one that describes the background colour] and write the story without ever identifying the race of any of the characters almost none of whom are in any real way: “Nice Guys”. In other words I chose as a poet to write in archetypes rather than stereotypes.

So I took, firstly, JM Coetzee’s “Barbarians….” as a model; linked it to Mandela’s [alleged] position [a la 1994]; when he spoke of a “place beyond race”.

Then I dekonstrukted… what I had; and then rekonstrukted and rekonstrukted again … the outcome.

I asked questions about my reader, in a technologically fast evolving world and had a surprising answer. An answer that in one case completely changed my understanding of everything I read.

Then i wrote and published the first post-liberation South Afrikan [then] Mzansian [now] ‘Skiet skop n verspoeg’ [my local phrase for what was once called “blood n guts”], race free, allegoric prose poetic novel: “The Buffalo Hunters”.

I rudely self-published the Buffalo Hunters two years after the Revolution in our country; in celebration of a brief [maybe] period of liberty. [I certainly would never have been allowed to publish the story before liberation]. And there are many who are enraged, I am led to believe, that I wrote it at all… without any form of standard, centuries old, racial bias… based on the silence that is now to be released.

My hypothesis is that there is good and bad in varying amounts in every human [pretty well]. What happens when a whole lot of different variations of ‘bads’, somehow, inadvertently, cross paths with each other at critical moments: that end in violence: bad goods and good bads coalesce?

At the start I had to ask the crucial question.

Could I use the methods of poetry to model a violent, sexually graphic story [we were at the time in an immediate post-revolution period] in which I make it as nearly impossible as I can make it, to identify the ethnicity of a player; and still have a definitive character that could engage you my reader… whom I do not know.

They would all simply be metaphors for people engaged in a series of violent things. Metaphors, or even archetypes’; with which you, my reader could bond freely; and engage as an extended ‘you’: should you wish to enter my imaginary world.

Could I in other words go to “a place beyond race”… and focus exclusively on the horror it has so brutally represented; rather that write something that facilitates the rage that we repress. Rather show that antipathy, like love: is not the exclusive domain of some among many?

And then if I could do that then would I have set up a new fashion… AND therein lies the silence.

So take a chance, get the eBook and tell me if I was wrong. Tell me whether a story that I described as the most violent sexually graphic tale ever published legally in my country is worth a few bob. [In reality this eBook is cheaper today than the the copies off the print run I did 22 years ago.] or: is even worth all the inconvenience of writing like that.

Read them and tell me if I’m right or wrong.

The Buffalo Hunters, is a violent sexually graphic crime story about what happens when a gang of Buffalo Hunters [a euphemism for vehicle hijackers … a fashionable activity almost invented in my neighborhood.] have to go on the run themselves, when they accidentally Jackroll the daughter of a local warlord.

Should you be a fan of violent, sexually graphic stories that, curiously, many readers have also found to be bizarrely funny… this will be the read of the year.

On the other hand should you be someone who desires simpler pleasures… like: Getting you own way in things, then: 7 Ways… is made for you… and is inherently non-violent… It has been found by many readers over the past eleven years to be most useful at achieving that purpose… getting your own way in things: as well as getting the money that is righteously yours: should that be your requiirement.

Enjoy until next time.
And don’t forget to let me know what you declare the verdict to be…

Let us jointly break the silence.
