Writing the Jonker

I grew up telling stories, i made a good living telling stories and stories have always been the staple of my life, blurring truth, adapting imagination and praised, by some politically incorrect characters, that i was a “great lie writer.”

And of course fiction is all about lying on a grand scale.

The germ of the idea for the Jonker [pronounced Yonka] came from notes i made during a drunken discussion with an elderly stranger in The Rand International barroom. Much later it was shocked into life through a gunfight that woke me up and provided a stream of hallucinogenic, prophetic dreams that may or may not have been morphine induced.

Add to that the random bric a brac of day to day life… stories from the daily press, random eavesdroppings in public places, snippets off TV and radio: and a world emerges and patterns can be constructed to reveal a reality that is a possibility… or not.

In the most absolute sense this story took my whole life to konstrukt. I started telling stories to audiences in the Town Halls up and down the region where i grew up; and which have since morphed into a mega-metro-urban zone and changed their kollektive names. So the places where i told tales no longer exist: and the audiences have all died.

So now faced with the ultimate story… about how the world ended and what happened afterwards: combined with the magic of Mayan prophecy, an opportunity has arisen where i shall read this more abstract global village a bedtime story and i look forward to you coming in to listen.

In launching this venture i would appreciate some donations to assist with costs should you feel the story is worth an ending … this will eventually have a formal process whereby it happens which i presently don’t quite know how to expedite… one of many new things one learns daily… And in closing i would like to thank my family, my students, my friends, both living and regretfully those who are posthumous: especially Ed and David, for their unfailing contributions to this venture over a long period.A full summary of these thank you’s can be found, associated with podcast: episode 1.

Chapter 26 Zen… Zat was ze Way

i am ze way of Zen

It’s what i do.

I believe everything
And nothing.
Everything so that i
Should not
Inadvertently
Miss the truth.
And nothing
So that i can
Understand
Certainty.
